Mr Dix's appointment was made following a day of sequential panel interviews involving doctors, nurses and other health professionals, staff and governors from the Trust.

Ann James, Chief Executive of Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, said: "The quality of care patients receive and the compassion with which that care is given is a core priority for any healthcare service. This priority needs strong professional leadership at Board level. Greg is an experienced nurse and an experienced nurse leader at Board level.

Mr Dix will start in his new post on February 25.
