Huge cannabis haul
CUSTOMS officer have seized a staggering 420 kilos of cannabis resin hidden in a lorry which arrived in the city on the Santander ferry.
The drugs, worth more than three-quarters of a million pounds, were found by officers from the UK Border Agency (UKBA) after they stopped a lorry on Tuesday morning at the ferryport in Millbay. The vehicle had arrived on the ferry from Northern Spain and officers discovered the hessian-wrapped drugs hidden amongst 20 pallets of foodstuffs.
The cannabis, with an estimated street value of £886,000, has since been sent for forensic examination to determine its purity.
Following the detection, the case was passed to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) investigation officers to continue inquiries.
The driver of the lorry, Graeme Berry, aged 42, of Millerstone Rise, Kirkby Thore, Penrith, Cumbria, was arrested and later charged with attempting to smuggle the drugs into the UK.
He was bailed by police to appear before Plymouth Magistrates on September 17.

“maybe they should start doing something about the massive drink problem we have that kills 10,000 a year rather than a bit of dope. people who smoke dope dont go out fighting and mugging people after they have had a smoke, they usually sit inside, have a munch then fall asleep....not really the same as the smackheads who mug people n turn to prostitiution or the alcoholics that fight on the street and kill people drink driving!! its pathetic”

“At £886,000 for 420 kg that's £60/ounce, a lot cheaper than when I was a teenager. Who says the price of everything is getting higher.”
