IPCC inquiry into death
POLICE are to be investigated after a 62-year-old man collapsed and later died after being stopped by an officer in the street.
Devon & Cornwall Police has referred the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) following the incident in Wolseley Road at around 3pm on September 20.
A police spokesman said: "During this contact the man collapsed and officers carried out CPR on him. He was then taken to a local hospital and life was pronounced extinct at 4.17pm. His next of kin have been informed. As is usual in cases like this where a death occurs after police contact, this incident has been referred to the IPCC who will review police actions and decide whether to investigate or pass the case back for local investigation."
Police have not made any explicit appeal for witnesses or information. The police log number is 396 of 20/9/12 and the IPCC's contact number is 0300 0200096.
