THE chairman of Plymouth's planning committee has insisted that he will not back down over holding a hearing into the city's proposed waste incinerator three days before Christmas.

Questioned by Labour in the full city council on Monday, Cllr John Lock said: "They don't give up and I won't give in."

He told Cllr Bill Stevens (Lab, Devonport): "There is no reason why the meeting could not be held in January but it's not going to be held in January – it's going to be held on December 22."

He said it was a normal working day. The date is the earliest possible for the planning committee to consider the application by the German company MVV Umwelt.

MVV is at the centre of a fierce controversy over plans to build an incinerator to handle rubbish from Plymouth, Torbay and South Devon. The company came out on top after a long bidding war.

    “"a little p.s. for obscureip

The date and time of the meeting has just today been released by PCC in the form of written notification to interested parties."

Let me know if I'm missing something but I just looked online in the planning section. The Planning Committee public part of the meeting is on 22/12/11 at 10:00 in the council house.”

“IF YOU WANT TO STOP THIS.

You will have to get your'e Bottoms infront of the
Lorries...Or get the rest of the country from here to Norway
    to stop it.
Trouble is.... It was agreed around 1980.......Tough and live with it”

“Remember your vote counts - if they support the incinerator vote them out!!!!! Your children and my children have the right to clean air even if they are not born to wealthy Navy Officers and Plymouth Council puppets!”

“To quote obscureip -"In my opinion all residents coming under the jurisdiction of the three councils have a part to play in the blame for having an incineration option."

    Why are we to blame?

Its not OUR decision - we have suggested alternatives but the partnership are not interested. We didn't choose this option - we had no choice. This site was not even considered in the Waste Development Plan.

Not ALL residents of the three councils will be adversely affected by this - only one of the three-US!!

I use the recycling bins and green bags for garden waste provided, I take my glass and bottles to the appropriate skips……however remember evidence in the local press of green and brown bins being tipped into the same refuse truck. That's not my fault is is?

Why should I pay the price if the people of Torbay for example don't recycle properly……why do others actions mean that I deserve to have this landed on me?

Why, if companies use too much packaging should I have to endure this?

If I do something wrong then I expect to pay a price for it but I have done nothing wrong and yet according to documents the road in which I live will be SIGNIFICANTLY ADVERSELY AFFECTED even in 15 years time.

This is about MVV making MASSIVE profits at our expense - Plymouth's, not the rest of SWDWP - and getting a 'foot in the door' in the UK.

There is plenty of documentation freely available-I've spent nearly 2 years reading it-but there is nothing in any of it which leads me to believe this should be sited on my doorstep and that I am to blame!”

“You cannot blame us for being emotionally charged when this is literally metres from our homes.

When hundreds of juggernauts will be coming up and down the St Budeaux By-pass - I have started on my journey to work each morning counting the number of vehicles already heading down to Camels Head. I'll let you know next week. The traffic surveys that have been carried out do not match with what I see every day.

When errors have already been admitted and there are many many contradictions and misleading statements in the documents produced (which you now cannot read as access to PCC planning site regarding this proposal is not accessible)

The Joint Scrutiny panel was not representative of THIS area. There was no representation from here.

On the 'Inside Out' programme it did not show exactly where the residents were in relation to the incinerator but they were not within metres, nor was the incinerator sited in a basin where noise is amplified and a chimney stack needed to be over 95metres high in order to lessen the impact on the environment (and as I have said before but get no answers - what needs to be lessened if its all safe?). As far as I remember the person showing the visitor round was not sure regarding proximity and emission safety.

The noise from the test drilling has already been unbearable and the road where I live which also looks over the site was not even given consideration and no letters were sent to us warning or informing us.

The powers that be are ignoring any information based on any recognised sources and any that are currently in progress due to doubts over the safety of these incinerators. In fact I don't believe they are reading as much as we are....

So yes we are emotionally charged but based on the catalogue of events so far, what we have all researched ourselves, what we are already experiencing and what we know we will experience if god forbid the planning committee say yes.”
