International interest in sale of works by West artists
A diverse collection of paintings and prints by some of the Westcountry's leading artists of the last century will be auctioned next week at a specialist sale.
Works by Robert Lenkiewicz, Beryl Cook and Brian Pollard are already attracting international interest and are expected to fetch thousands of pounds. Auctioneers say the modern, abstract and traditional styles of art that have come out of Plymouth and the South West have a wide appeal and are collected worldwide.

Paintings by Beryl Cook are also expected to be particularly popular and include Tarzanogram – a scene from one of the Barbican pubs
The main attraction is a collection of 50 lots by Robert Lenkiewicz, including several original paintings, watercolours, drawings and prints.
A portrait of the artist with his model Fiorella, painted in oil on canvas, carries a guide price of £15,000-£18,000.
The works by Beryl Cook are also expected to be particularly popular and include Tarzanogram, thought to depict a scene from one of the Barbican pubs.
The sale will also feature a 19th century painting of a cottage interior entitled Torpoint by Nicholas Condy.
The Cornish artist undertook most of his work in Plymouth between 1830 and 1845, but also exhibited two landscapes at the Royal Academy. He is buried in Plymouth's St Andrew's churchyard.
Two items in the sale are by Vincent Bennett of Plymouth, whose most famous work is a recently rediscovered mural at the Clipper Pub in Union Street, which he is believed to have painted for beer money.
Another set of popular lots will be three works by Brian Pollard, one of the stars of the country's naive painting school, whose work is often characterised by a childlike simplicity.
Auctioneer Paul Keen said: "Brian Pollard is considered to be West Britain's leading naive painter. The artist has entered three paintings straight from his studio. One particular picture is quite seasonal with a snow scene at St Andrews Church, Cullompton. Collectors will be expected to part with £1,000 to take this one home."
The auction takes place on Wednesday at 6pm at Plymouth Auction Rooms. There is a live online auction where people can bid from home at www.plymouthauctions.co.uk
