Jail for ex-boyfriend who stabbed man in the back
A 24-YEAR-OLD who admitted stabbing a man he found at his ex-girlfriend’s home has been jailed for two years.
David Buckingham accepted the charge of unlawfully wounding Scott Trowden at his former partner’s home in Keyham on August 17 when he appeared at Plymouth Crown Court on Friday.

Father-of-two Buckingham, of Foulston Avenue, Barne Barton, had recently split from his partner but had gone around to their home demanding entry.
Prosecutor Jo Martin said Buckingham became “very agitated” and broke into the property.

He began to argue with his former partner but when Mr Trowden attempted to intervene he stabbed him twice in the back.
Mr Trowden attempted to flee, pursued by Buckingham who had picked up a claw hammer.
The hammer was later dropped and Mr Trowden called paramedics.
When he was taken to hospital he was found to have a punctured lung.
McKenzie Robinson, for Buckingham, said his client was later arrested and charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
In mitigation Mr Robinson said Buckingham’s former partner was aware of the distress the break-up had caused his client, including that he had attempted to take his own life in woods.
He said she had leant out of the window when he came to the house that day and regretted “laughing” at him.
He noted she had never made any statement to police about the incident.
He said Buckingham described a “red mist descended” when he found Mr Trowden at the address and “acted in a blind rage”. Judge Graham Cottle said it was “pure chance” that Mr Trowden’s injury was not more serious.
He added: “You could be standing in the dock having to accept responsibility for an infinitely more serious charge.
“That’s why knife crime is so serious.”
He sentenced Buckingham to two years imprisonment, less 75 days spent on remand.

“2 years! Incredible. I know we're skint but if you dont punish people properly / take them out of harms way it costs far more in legal fees, police time and so on. We.are.a.laughing.stock.”

“knife crime serious. punctured lung. 2 years imprisonment minus days on remand. out in 10 months time. if you kill someone you get prison starting point of 12 years. if you nearly killed someone....one year in prison. ??”
