JAMAL WILLIAMS hopes to agree a new deal at Marjon Plymouth Raiders this summer – but is holding out for more money as negotiations continue.

The 25-year-old Canadian forward, who also holds a British passport, was Raiders' eighth man in a regular nine-man rotation last season.

He averaged 2.8 points and 2.6 rebounds in 12 minutes per game off Raiders' bench.

Williams provided cover for coach Gavin Love's starting frontline of forwards Lehmon Colbert and Anthony Rowe, and centre Paul Williams.

Jamal Williams, currently out of contract and back home in Canada for the summer, said: "I want to come back to Plymouth next season.

"My agent has been talking to coach Love but I will only come back for the right price."

Williams, who at 6ft 5in can play at small and power-forward, added: "Coach did give me an offer, but I haven't jumped on it and I don't think it is still available.

"It was a good offer but not for my financial situation and didn't reflect what I'm worth as a player."

Williams joined Raiders last December after a rookie year at Mersey Tigers, who completed a BBL treble in his time at the club in 2010/11.

Williams made 22 appearances last season and grew in confidence and influence as the season progressed.

By mid-March, he was holding Newcastle Eagles forward Charles Smith to 8/19 shooting in the BBL Trophy final first-leg at the Pavilions. That performance showcased Williams' quality at the defensive end.

He has a natural talent to guard his man tightly, making it difficult for opponents to shoot over him, while his solid size, despite measuring only 6ft 5in, makes it tough for opponents to put the ball on the floor and bully him.

Love has so far two names on Raiders' 2012/13 BBL roster – guard Drew Lasker and Rowe.

Guard Jeremy Bell, Colbert and Paul Williams, meanwhile, continue to mull over offers of new one-year deals. Love intends to recruit a new-look bench from early July ahead of pre-season in September.
