He was appointed as Chesterfield boss in the summer of 2009 and they were crowned as League Two champions in 2010/11.
Sheridan was capped 34 times by the Republic of Ireland during his playing career as a midfielder.
He was relieved of his duties at Chesterfield at the end of August after the Spireites picked up only two points from their first three league games.

“I think deep down he could be a good manager but the problem is that many Pafc fans /Plymothians are BIGOTS of the highest order towards northern or scottish people.i seen it with all the utter tripe surrounding ,Bobby Williamson in the past, hints about sturrock and all.
Already on the websites we get the "likes a pint" or "goes to the pub" threads so common among our lovely janner brethren.
Give it a rest you self riotous ***** pieheads , Brian Clough was a Pis*head look what happened with him,
Anything is better then Fletch, Nance and RO”

“Great choice so give him a chance. We wanted experience and we got it and he was sacked by Chesterfield after 3 games this season which was stupid
Some of you are never satisfied. Even if Fergy took the role some would moan. Its a step up and in the right direction.
He'll do well
Sidewinder your a disgrace to yourself and if you are genuine PAFC fan, which I doubt, well I wish you weren't”

“Let's hope he has sorted out that temper of his, I'm sure David Friio remembers that headbutt well.
Still if he is the new manager and we have had no real confirmation yet, we need to support him as the manager.
He has a lot to prove though to those with long memories”
