Johnny Depp, the Mad Hatter
THIS is the first glimpse of Hollywood star Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter in the new version of Alice in Wonderland, part of which has been filmed in Plymouth.
Depp, in bohemian Victorian clothing, a quirky hat and curly red hair, is no stranger to eccentric costumes, having played the role of Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean films and starring as Edward Scissorhands, among others.

Johnny Depp is unrecognisable in his latest role
Here the chameleon actor is, once again, transforming his good looks for his upcoming role as the Mad Hatter, scenes for which have been filmed at Antony House, near Torpoint.
The popular beauty spot was closed for six weeks in September and October to allow filming for the latest film version of Lewis Carroll's historic tale, as directed by Tim Burton.
Appearing alongside Depp in the cast are Mia Wasikowska, an 18-year-old Australian who will play Alice, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen and Burton's partner Helena Bonham Carter, who will play the Red Queen.
Matt Lucas, of Little Britain fame, will appear as Tweedledum and Tweedledee.
In August, 3,000 people queued in Plymouth for the chance to be cast as extras in the Disney film, with the successful 250 being filmed in period costume at the Cornwall estate. Alice in Wonderland is due for release in 2010.
Thousands queue for Disney film auditions.

“Johnny Depp is too professional not to turn up on location and he and Tim Burton are a fantastic team and I am sure Johnny no matter how busy will surely make an appearance way to go Johnny can't wait for the release.”

“Seem to recall that thanks to the magic of CGI Mr Depp will never need to set foot on location as he is being added afterwards. So what the point of this article is beyond me some vain attempt to link the region with an actor who isn`t even going to show up.
Obviously a slow news week.”
