"I just hope to meet as many of you as possible to thank you in person for all your support and actions and words – it brings great warmth to my heart in such dark and tragic times.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have been out looking for my little bro.

"All of you have been amazing in keeping hope for not only us but yourselves in continuously looking to bring him home.

"So I'd like to thank the police, the MoD, RNLI, Coastguards, the Royal Navy and all of you fantastic volunteers for giving up all your free time and effort.

"Please, please, please just if you choose to search do it safely in every way possible. You are all heroes in my eyes."

He added: "Lastly I would like to thank all of you for your continued respect for family feelings and also the media for respecting the family's need for privacy in these traumatic times. It has been a huge help, so many thanks.

"Thank you so, so, so much from all of us, be it family or friends, it all means so much."

Many of Jordan's friends will return to school on Monday after the Christmas break.

Danni Hopkins said: "It just won't be the same. He was in most of my lessons, he used to hang around with us all the time. We are trying to be strong for each other."

Police said they would continue with searches over the weekend following a week of intense activity.

Friday saw officers once again joined by the RNLI, Coastguard and MoD launches in the search for Jordan Cobb, scouring the water and the foreshore.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said: "Further searches are being considered, but the warning to the public remains: please do not go on to the foreshore, risking your own safety, as co-ordinated searches are in hand."

“I thought that avoiding the harsh realities of this sad event would have been the best option on here so avoided comment initially, but as has been pointed out, this rather ridiculous 'Hollywood dream' view is getting out of hand, and is becoming a rather undignified, almost macabre, sideshow. Certain people are clearly far more concerned about showing how much they 'care' than actually caring and showing genuine concern and respect towards the family and genuine friends of this young man. This is a very sad incident, but had I been a relative or friend of Jordan, I would have hoped for a far more dignified response to his loss.”

    “Potbelly
I think you may have mis-understood what I wrote in this thread. When I put that comment about Anne's post, trashbag was in full deranged flow on the other thread.
I've only ever been supportive of the people who wanted to help but, having been involved with similar searches before, I advised against youngsters getting out and looking.”

“Errrrr....Vinnie_Gar but you clearly condone these types of comments just like you normally do from checking out your other heartless and bullying remarks from other post you make!”

“so why make these type of comments?"
    Errrr, I didn't.
But you accused me of doing so along with some other unpleasant comments.”

“So, Vinnie_Gar you do not think comments such as: "He could of been caught up in chains" (Eniel), "He will not be found paddling his feet on Drakes Island" (Anne1983), aren't cruel or heartless?
The story above is simply thanking people helping to look for a love one, so why make these type of comments?”

    “Potbelly
What sort of infantile comment is that?
No-ne is trying to be cruel or heartless.
If you look on the thread about the collection you'd see that some of us are saying that youngsters shouldn't be looking for him because, if they find him and the worst has happened, they are going to see something truly horrific.
Because we were doing that we were getting a load of abuse from some none too bright people.
We are trying to protect well meaning youngsters whilst acknowledging their desire to help.”

“I think his family and friends are clinging to hope, and why shouldn't they? I know if it was my love one I too would be searching high and low for them...this is about some sort of closure now and this lad obviously has a large group of people who want this as soon as possible...so enough of the stupid, insensitive, nasty comments! (eniel, anne1983, Vinnie_Gar I wonder how many people would be out searching for you?, although I expect you think you are all too perfect to ever be in any kind of predicament!)”

    “@ anne1983..........
Well done you for saying what everyone else is thinking...! It is a shame and a tragedy about Jordan, but the harsh reality is that he will not be returning home. Parents allowing their children to go out and search are now taking the michael a bit as they clearly know that they are setting their own child up for heart ache.
@ Eniel.. DOH they are the emergency services of course they would of looked under the ferry.......! (are you blonde?)”

You'll attract a whole load of abuse for that pragmatic and sensible approach.”
