KATIE OBORN is a model entrepreneur – she's added an alternative therapy business to her career on the catwalk.

Miss Oborn, who has modelled all over the world, has started Papilio Therapy, which offers aromatherapy massage and facials, Swedish massage, Indian head massage, reiki and tarot readings.

And she is a prime example of the flexibility needed in today's workplace, with people now likely to pursue more than one career during their working lives.

In fact, City College Plymouth has been highlighting, via The Herald, the importance of "transferable skills" when changing career direction.

"I still do modelling and I'm still with agencies, doing TV, commercial work and fashion shows," said Miss Oborn. "But now I have started providing aromatherapy and massage treatments.

"And soon I will be making candles, soaps and lip balms, and I'm developing new stuff too."

Miss Oborn has opened her business at Plymouth Chiropractic Clinic, in Mannamead, after being helped by start-up support organisation Outset Plymouth.

"I was self-employed for a long time as a model and lived in London," she said. "I have been to 13 countries modelling including Thailand and Australia, where I found they had a more holistic approach to health.

"Ten years ago I did a diploma in aromatherapy and massage. I worked off and on while still doing the modelling."

Miss Oborn, who grew up in Devon, moved to Plymouth in 2008 and last year decided to set up a business.

"It's going from strength to strength," she said. "I'm starting to build up clients and I'll have a range of completely natural products available soon."
