“Good result at Cornwall Council today. Hopefully, a start back on the road to democracy and accountability.
Although this was a result of the 'outsourcing' issue it is a reflection of the poor state of the CC Constitution which hands too much power to the Cabinet. This needs to be looked at thoroughly after the dust has settled.
The drive for 'outsourcing' seemed to have been pushed by Kevin Lavery (ex employee of Serco, BT and Enterprise) and supported by the Tory majority without obtaining the full support of the whole Council. So undemocratic as well as ignoring the weight of eveidence showing that many 'outsourcing' contracts lead to worsening services, pay and conditions for staff and costing more in the longer run. There was, I feel, some 'playing politics' by some Councillors but we shall all remember this when we vote on a new Council next year.”

“so now anyone who proposes tough measures to achieve cuts can expect to be voted out...it's like watching a disfunctional family”
