PLYMOUTH Albion Ladies warmed up for their Championship South West Two title tilt with an impressive win over Bath.

Albion, who just missed out on promotion last season, defeated their visitors 31-24 at Brickfields.

Plymouth open their campaign with a home friendly match against London Welsh at Brickfields on September 15.

Bath, who play in the Championship South League – one division above Albion – opened the scoring with a drop-goal 10 minutes into the first half.

But Albion responded almost immediately with a try from centre Helen Wilkinson.

Albion went another two tries up in the first half, thanks to fly- half Lucy Demaine – newly signed from Bristol, who also kicked two conversions.

Bath rallied to tie the game with three converted tries with just 10 minutes of the match remaining.

Albion scored a well-worked team try to put the game beyond Bath's reach.

Another new signing from Launceston youth, Alex Smith, scored the try, with Demaine notching the final points of the match with a well-taken conversion.

Albion finished top of the Championship South West Two League last season, but lost the promotion play offs to Aylesford Bulls.

Spokeswoman Alison Cooper said: "This season, Albion are seeking to do one better and push for the promotion spot.

"Their victory over Bath was a promising start for Albion and they can go forward with confidence into their first league match of the season."

Albion Ladies' match against London Welsh at Brickfields on September 15 (5pm) is due to be played after the senior men's match against Leeds at home.
