Landlord's woes
RECENTLY there was an article about a gentleman who rented his property through a letting agent but when the clients did a runner, they left the property in a terrible mess and it was stated that it would cost about £10,000 to put right.
I had the same problem but not as bad as the gentleman above.
The tenant I had did a runner in the middle of the night owing two months rent, unpaid council tax, water, electric and gas not paid and left the place in a mess with damaged furniture. It took some time to clear up but did the letting agents help out with the cost? No.
I only received the retention and as it's in the contract that they don't have to pay any owed rent or for damage, it makes you wonder why we bother with letting agents in the first place.

“What a silly article. Letting agents find the tenants for you. If you don't like it, find your own tenants. I'm no fan of letting agents but they aren't some kind of insurance scheme. If you want landlords insurance you'll have to buy that.”
