LANE changes are coming into effect on Laira Bridge from Wednesday as essential maintenance works near completion.

Both inbound and outbound vehicles are using one lane each of the northern carriageway (the side nearest The Ride).

  1. Laira Bridge

This will be changed early on Wednesday morning to allow for work to be done on the central reservation.

The two lanes on either side of the central reservation will be closed and traffic will use the outer lanes on each carriageway, nearest the pavements.

From 9pm on Friday November 2 to 6am on Saturday November 3, Laira Bridge will be closed to all outbound traffic, to allow for the northern carriageway to be resurfaced.

Traffic heading from the city centre to Plymstock during this time will be diverted through Cot Hill.

On Saturday morning, when the resurfacing work is complete, traffic will switch back to travelling in the outside lane of each carriageways for the remainder of the works.

The works are on schedule for completion in mid-November.

“@lweston "not worth getting upset about" you say. The impact on the turnover of my business is well over a grand a week. This might not have been such a problem if it we were part of a large company but you know what? We're a family business who were only just keeping our head above water in the first instance; we've not paid ourselves in over a year (basically since the last set of roadworks) and this round has the potential to kill us off. Over half of our trade has vanished and when we ask our customers why we've not seen them for a while they are telling us that they are not crossing the bridge because of the roadworks. We have six employees whose jobs hang in the balance because of this. Not worth getting upset about? It might just be a traffic delay to you but it's a damn sight more serious to me and mine!”

“If people didn't leave 1/4 mile between them and the car in front when they got on the bridge, the queues would be a lot shorter.”

“Odd how they can arrange for the work at Marsh Mills to be done mainly at night, but not here.”

“This has gone on long enough. The back-up traffic at Cattedown roundabout is ridiculous!”
