Let's get Plymouth in the national spotlight
WITH reference to the bid for City of Culture. MP Alison Seabeck says we want the world to come to Plymouth – only if we have got an airport will they be able to come.
How embarrassing to read that Easyjet is to have new flights to Newquay airport next summer, a small town in west Cornwall.
Railways are not the answer. It makes me angry to keep reading about it. The rail fares are very expensive, the service is not reliable, and it takes too long to get anywhere.
The roadway to the M5 is not good enough to serve a city the size of Plymouth and districts. Sutton Harbour Holdings were not interested in running the airport; it is all being exposed now – it was all about selling it off for millions of pounds for building on. They got 11 million pounds for what is now being built on; what would they get if they were able to sell off the rest of the airport? It was on a lease belonging to the citizens of our city without any say in the matter.

A pilot told me at a meeting that planes were always full going to London, but he said it was landing slots that were the problem.
It seems Plymouth doesn't exist to some people in authority.
I used to go to Jersey to visit my family there, planes were always full. I would never ever use Exeter airport as Plymouth has a much bigger population and should be the main airport in the Westcountry.
Yes, Plymouth has got a lot to offer tourists, its history, it is central to both counties, boat trips up the Tamar Valley, the Barbican, Hoe, Dartmoor etc. Get your act together! I want to see Plymouth advertised more in the national press. I look at national newspapers and never see Plymouth advertised as a holiday destination at all. So please listen to the people of our city and get the airport in action again.
The runway is still there, but where is the 11 million pounds gone which was supposed to be for lengthening the runway? We want an answer, please. Yes, there is a lot of talk about our bid for the City of Culture, but action speaks louder than words. Get motivated and good luck.
