HOW good it was to see democracy in action both in the council chamber and the public gallery regarding the future of our city airport.

Of course there was a bit of political banter between both the Labour and Conservative councillors, but in the crucial matter of the vote common sense prevailed, in the sending of a letter seeking help from the Government and what I believe was the most important decision the almost unanimous decision in favour of keeping the airport, (two Conservatives abstained).

As the president of Plymouth City Lib/Dems I wrote to Vince Cable the Business Secretary asking him to intervene to see what his department could do to help. I have received a message from him saying that he has passed on my letter to the civil servants, I know that it will take a while to come to a conclusion however, I am very pleased that the council leader has also decided to write to the Government, well done Mr Evans.

Now is the time in my opinion for both the council, the public and any interested bodies to work together and get Plymouth flying again.
