The Levellers and Seth Lakeman lead a top line-up for Plymouth Volksfest
THE nights are getting shorter and, even if the weather's not much warmer, it's a sure sign that spring is on the way – and with it the start of the festival season.
Volksfest, Plymouth's biggest music festival, will once again be happening at Newnham Park, Plympton, this year between May 24 and 26, over the Bank Holiday weekend.

"It's about time – I've been trying for years, so we're really thrilled to have him on board!"
This year the festival will have five stages, the main Big Top stage, the Second Stage, called Live and Local, the Cabaret and Comedy stage, the Open Mic stage plus a Dance Tent.
"It's all about trying to get something for everyone, not just what I like," says Mark. "Otherwise we'd have three days of piano music!
"We especially need to get a younger perspective on things and so this year we've been involving pupils from Ivybridge Community College.
"Which is why for the first time we'll be including a dance tent.
"I'm 30 and dubstep has virtually passed me by, but I understand it's quite popular!"
In fact there will be over 200 acts performing this year, with the emphasis, as usual, on attracting crowd-pulling names as well as supporting the best local performers.
"We are pleased to have Ruarri Joseph, the brilliant singer-songwriter from North Cornwall, formerly with Atlantic Records, who has just signed to Warners."
Plus, of course, there are a plethora of excellent local acts including Mad Dog Mcrea, Land Of The Giants, Freshly Squeezed, Vince Lee, Thomas Ford And The Dirty Harmonies, Grooveyard, The Scribes, The PJP Band, Josie Ghost, Empire of Fools, Secrets For September, Hamer And Isaacs Gypsy Jazz Band, These Reigning Days, Black Jack Davey, The Paisley Strays, Peter Crawford, Empire Of Fools, Miss Von Trap, Ayre Point, Dream Bringer, Chris Davies, The Retro Gents, 4th Street Traffic, Magnus Puto, Forever 27 and many more.
As usual there'll be the plenty of activities for the kids, plus trade stalls and world foods, as well as the VW show'n'shine – all set in the stunning natural amphitheatre at Newnham Park.
More acts are constantly being added to the line up so watch this space for more news as it happens.
