Library sessions lift the lid on life in the freezer
YOUNG EXPLORERS were given the chance to learn about expeditions to the North and South Poles at city libraries to mark the centenary of Captain Scott's ill-fated journey.
As part of the polar fun sessions, children learnt about the science carried out in the regions as they had fun with a host of games and activities.
Organised by Plymouth City Council's library service and Education Through Expeditions, the events also taught visitors about the animals that live in the remote areas and how the landscape of the poles have an impact worldwide.
One parent said the event was very informative and fun while another said: "It's good to see the enthusiasm of the young experts and their willingness to pass on their knowledge to the children, in a fun, interesting way."
The family fun sessions were held in advance of next year's centenary of the fatal expedition by Plymouth hero Captain Robert Falcon Scott and his team to the South Pole.
And they aimed to inspire families about exploration and life around the two poles.
The activity sessions were held at libraries in Peverell, Crownhill, St Budeaux and at the central library at North Hill.
