Life Centre set to open next March
A DATE for the opening of the Plymouth Life Centre has been announced.
Doors are expected to be opened to the public over the weekend of 23 to 25 March next year following a period of "internal fit-out" and staff training.
Contractors Balfour Beatty said they would be officially handing over the building to Everyone Active on Monday 27 February next year.
The centre was originally projected to be open in December 2011 but due to delays in the construction process it was pushed back.

Council Leader, Viven Pengelly, said: "We are obviously disappointed that the centre will be opening a few weeks later than expected but we have to remember that this has been a major project to create a world-class facility that will cater for the city's sporting needs for many years.
"You would normally expect projects of this scale to experience far greater setbacks than this.
"It's fantastic that we now have a planned opening date for the Plymouth Life Centre and people can finally start counting down the days to using this incredible facility."
The centre will house a climbing zone, leisure pool with a flume and a 50-metre Olympic-sized swimming pool amongst many other facilities.
Cllr Pengelly added: "We promised local residents and the sporting community a centre of the highest quality and that is what they will get – we will not be cutting any corners.
"There are just a few months now until we open the doors and people will be absolutely bowled over when they get to see everything the centre has to offer. I am over the moon."
David Bibby, managing director of Everyone Active, added: "As the operators we're delighted to be getting the opening confirmation - it is very important for the operations team already working behind the scenes in Plymouth.
"They can begin recruiting staff, finalising internal fit-out, timetables, as well as keeping all the community informed about future use of the centre and arrangements for opening."
Further details about the opening of the Plymouth Life Centre will be announced in due course. For information about the facility and becoming a member visit www.plymouth.gov.uk/lifecentre.

“This is an old story, but it has been moved to the top of the list by ddtr100 who commented on it yesterday, 3 months after it was first published.!
This is the problem I have with the new look 'This is websites' defaulting their news section to 'Most recently active'. The default position should be latest, so that the new news is the stuff that is commonly seen. It's nice to offer the option of 'most recently active', but in my opinion it shouldn't be the default as it's very easy to get caught up in a news story which is not current, like this one.”

“Pengelly spent £46.5 million of tax payers money to build the life centre , now she is handing it over to a private company to make a profit from it
when did this woman become a expert about big contracts finishing on time , she talks a load of rubbish , Any contract should finish on time , if not the contractor has to pay a penalty”

“When this story refers to ~March next year, does that mean March 2013 or should it have read March this year, or was this story drafted a few months agos. Just curious.”
