THE Post Office has announced changes to improve service and delivery, etc.

These will not affect you directly, you should receive services as normal.

Yes, well we have a new postman who it seems starts his route in the opposite direction to the way it's been done in the 12 years I have been here.

The consequence of this is that instead of postal delivery by the latest midday, I now see post arriving at 5.30pm.

Too late for birthdays and too late to pay demands (if any) for bills.

Also noted that despite the released news that the Royal Mail can leave parcels, etc, next door, now this does not seem to be the case.

Despite my daughter leaving a notice to put any big items through the nearby window she has received a card saying she has to go all the way to Plymstock to receive it. This is not an improvement.

“@trudie2010 - Perhaps the polite, friendly young woman who used to be your postie decided that she did not want to spend the rest of her life delivering your mail and moved on to bigger and better things. How dare she!

@John_Ply - Please learn correct usage of the comma. I counted approximately 18 of them in your post. Only one of them was used correctly. I wonder if you can spot which one it was.”

“Most companies now work 9-5 why should royal mail be any different?

Posties deliver up to 14:45 and most mail is delivered before this time, on a busy day you may find that you get your post later as some postie has kindly decided to do overtime in order to get your mail to you that day.

A for getting your mail delivered in Hooe at 5.30, I know this is untrue as your posties both regually finish their round before they finish their duty at 14.45.

Quite simply if you dont like the service you are provided us another one someone has quite kindly listed a few other companies above that will happily take your custom, although you may have to collect it from their office and it may cost you 4 x the price of a 1st class stamp!!”

“Yawn..... As an ex Postie (and it's Royal Mail not the Post Office btw) I've heard it all before. The people who moan at the later delivery times (normally people doing such important things like running multi million pound business empires and NOT being at home all day complaining what time you have got there), would say in the next breath, "all you do is bring me bills and junk". So why does it matter what time it arrives?”

“"Mail delivery @ 5.30 p.m. is just not acceptable". But our ever price increasing service consistently tell us this is all in the name of a better service and that the service is in fact very good and value for money, so say the obscenely overpaid, bonus seeking big wigs from their ivory towers. Cobblers, this is no more than an ever increasing rip off Britain ongoing political/commercial scam. Our deliveries at Beacon Park are as inconsistent as tory/liberal policy and bounces around in different times and directions every day. Service is much worse than it has ever been and the posties are clearly stressed. Some service.”

“I came across Mailbox in Mayflower St the other day. They are a franchise with 100+ outlets, but are the only one they tell me in Devon and Cornwall. Now I've been advised they offer a very good service acting as a kind of broker, deciding which of the many means to despatch our mail. If anyone has tried them, I'd be interested to hear about their experiences.”

“At least your mail is still being delivered, albeit at what is clearly an unacceptable time.

Wait until Royal Mail is privatised, and mail deliveries are cut back to maybe two or three days a week, or even worse, left at your local post office or local shop for you to pick up at your leisure (as is common in many European countries).

Royal Mail has already been hobbled by the government, as it is now having to compete with companies like DHL, UK Mail and TNT, who have been allowed to cherry-pick Royal Mail's most lucrative customers without taking on any of their responsibilities - Royal Mail is still the only mail company operating in the UK which is obliged to guarantee a universal delivery service to every address in the country.

Enjoy your 5.30 deliveries while they last, because in a few years you'll be lucky if you get any mail delivered to your home at all.”

“I had an item for re-delivery for Wednesday, my postbox is situated on a post outside of my home, I noticed that a letter had been delivered when I went out to check as I hadn't seen the postman and I had stayed in expecting it. I caught up with him on my estate and he handed over my package and said he was going to drop it in on him when he finished his deliveries. I couldn't understand why he walked past my home and couldn't knock and pass over my package at the time.”
