ONE of the star attractions of the summer in Plymouth is set to make a dramatic return next month,

The spectacular Earl of Pembroke tall ship (

), which attracted more than 10,000 visitors during this summer's Artemis Transat, will be berthed once again at Sutton Harbour from November 13 to December 14.

The Sutton Harbour Group invited the majestic tall ship back to provide a spectacular and unique venue for the upcoming holiday season.

It is believed the attraction will provide a boost to businesses on the Barbican.

During her stay she will be available for corporate hospitality events in addition to hosting Saturday night VIP music nights and being open to the public during a variety of community events in association with Barbican businesses.

The ship can host up to 100 people for cocktails and canapé receptions or 60 for a sit down banquet.

Nigel Godefroy, chief executive of Sutton Harbour Group, said: "We are delighted to be supporting the return of the Earl of Pembroke to Sutton Harbour in the run-up to Christmas.

"The Earl will provide a stunning and historic centrepiece for the Barbican waterfront during its stay, and will help to boost visitors to the Barbican's shops, bars and restaurants during the important pre-Christmas trading period."

The Earl of Pembroke is part of the Square Sail fleet berthed in Charlestown in St Austell.

The Earl with her sister ships Kaskelot and Phoenix make up the only remaining square rigged fleet in the world that earns its keep by trade alone.

The ships and harbour have featured in hundreds films, television series such as Hornblower and promotional videos – and like Plymouth will also feature in the upcoming Alice in Wonderland production by Walt Disney.

Robin Davies, managing director of Square Sail Ltd, said: "We look forward to returning to Plymouth and welcome the opportunity to assist Sutton Harbour Group with its support of the Association of Barbican Businesses in their continuing efforts to establish Plymouth as a great maritime centre."

“Good news about the Earl of Pembroke but come on Tristan Nichols, when did we start using the Americanism 'holiday season'? Please let's not start that.”
