A MAN has appeared in court accused of burgling the flat of an elderly neighbour.

Ben Stacey faced Plymouth magistrates in custody charged with taking an unknown amount of cash from the home of the man, who is in his 70s.

Stacey, of Ermington Terrace, Mutley, allegedly entered the flat as a trespasser between July 1 and September 10.

Gareth Warden, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said the victim lived in a flat in the same converted terraced house.

Stacey was told the case would be sent straight to Plymouth Crown Court.

No plea was entered but Bill LaHive, for the 30-year-old, said the offence would be denied before a judge.

He was remanded in custody to appear at the senior court on October 1.

A second hearing has been earmarked for December 17.
