Two in court after Plymouth PCSO is hit by a car

A POLICE Community Support Officer was struck by a car as he attempted to stop a robbery suspect, a court heard.

PCSO Chris Kinski had signalled for a driver to stop but it is alleged he had to dive out of the way and a wing mirror hit him on his stab vest.

The incident happened in Mount Gould on Wednesday.

It is understood PCSO Kinski was unhurt and has returned to duty.

Yesterday Peter Bailey, aged 28, appeared at Plymouth magistrates court accused of dangerous driving.

Bailey has also been charged jointly with 31-year-old neighbour Emma Hingston with robbing a 60-year-old woman in Mutley on the same day. The defendants, both of Pier Street in West Hoe, did not enter pleas when they appeared in court yesterday and were remanded in custody to appear before a judge.

Gareth Warden, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said the 60-year-old woman was walking in Glen Park Avenue around lunchtime on Wednesday.

He said Hingston allegedly grabbed the woman's handbag and ran off, before getting into a car nearby with Bailey at the wheel.

Mr Warden said PCSO Chris Kinski spotted a car matching its description in Mount Gould Road.

It is understood the PCSO followed the car on foot and stood in front of it signalling for the driver to stop.

It is alleged the car was then driven toward the officer. Mr Warden said the car was then involved in a collision with another vehicle.

Geoff Parlby, for Hingston, said she worked part-time at a cafe and a bed and breakfast.

Alex Travers, for Bailey, said he was a sales assistant for a solar panel company.

Magistrates remanded the pair in custody to appear at Plymouth Crown Court on January 21.
