A MARRIED church-goer has gone on trial accused of sexually assaulting a girl in his car on moorland.

Trevor Paddon-Hall, aged 58, touched the youngster indecently, Plymouth Crown Court was told.

Paddon-Hall, of Marythorne Road in Bere Alston, denies sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13.

Jason Beal, for the Crown Prosecution Service, told the jury in opening that Paddon-Hall was "involved with several charities" at the time of the alleged offence in April 2008.

He added he was giving the girl a lift when he turned down a "dark lane on the moor".

Mr Beal told the jury he then touched her indecently. He added the girl told him her mother would be worrying about her and he stopped.

Mr Beal said she did not immediately tell her family, but confided in friends.

The jury heard those friends did tell her mother, but she did not report the allegation to police. Mr Beal said officers only became involved when one of the friends shouted something at Paddon-Hall towards the end of 2010.

The trial, before Recorder Paul Dunkels, continues today.
