His family have been informed.

It is unclear how the man came to fall from the third floor flat at Tavy House, Duke Street, Devonport on Monday afternoon.

The horror unfolded at around 12.30pm. Shaken witnesses spoke of hearing shouting before the man was found lying on the ground.

Officers who were on the scene forced entry into the flat from where he fell, but found no-one else present.

About 10 police crews and an ambulance attended and cordoned off the area.

He was taken to Derriford Hospital, but he died.

The incident will be reported to the Independent Police Complaints Commission because police officers arrived at the scene of the tragedy before paramedics. Such a report is standard when someone dies after they have had any contact with police.
