A 37-year-old Plymouth man has been killed in an industrial accident in Crapstone, Yelverton.

Police attended a report of an industrial incident at Yelverton Business Park at approximately 1.20pm yesterday.

Pallets full of dry plaster powder were being unloaded from a lorry at the time of the accident.

Police say the man, named locally as Philip Ring, was not directly involved in the unloading, but it is understood he was nearby and a pallet fell onto him.

The air ambulance attended with paramedics and took the man to Derriford Hospital, where he later died.

The accident will be subject of a joint investigation by police and the health and safety executive.

Police are not treating the man's death as suspicious at this time and the coroner has been informed.

Tributes are paying paid to Phil Ring online, friend Nikki Temlett posted: "The memories we have of Phil will last a lifetime.... the days down the Albey and the Club with Phil playing his harmonica and his little tin & pipe he always carried with him!!...He was a scruffy little bugger apart from the time he had all his hair cut off and no-one recognised him!! lol...he soon grew it all back and was the Eternal Hippy looking Phil we all knew & loved."
