Man released on bail in Plymouth flat suspected murder probe

A 25-year-old man arrested in connection with the death of a man in Plymouth has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

The arrest relates to the death of a man who was found at 5pm on Sunday after police were called to an address in Ipswich Close, Whitleigh.

A man was arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of a 21-year-old was found at a block of flats.

Police and paramedics were called to Ipswich Close where the body of a local man was found in a fourth floor flat.

Detectives have now launched an investigation into the death, which was discovered by emergency services at around 5pm on Sunday.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Trust said: “We got a call from a mobile at 4.47pm. We sent two ambulances to the address but did not convey the patient to hospital.”

Residents could be seen standing on their balconies as police officers arrived at the scene.

One resident, who did not wish to be named, yesterday described the scene as “mayhem”.

He said: “There were police and people in white suits everywhere. Everyone came out on to the balconies to see what was going on. It was mayhem.

“I don’t think the man had lived there long, probably not even a month. Everyone keeps to themselves here.”

The scene of the crime has now been cordoned off and a security firm has been hired to guard the area.

A post-mortem examination was due to be carried out today.

Officers said the man’s next of kin had been informed of his death but that he had not yet been formally identified.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said they believed the man may also have been assaulted some days before his death.

Detective Chief Inspector David Thorne is heading up the investigation.
