The man, who is from Plymouth, was left with facial cuts and bruising and was treated in Derriford Hospital.
Police are now seeking the offenders, all white men aged 17 to 18, and are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the assault to contact them.
One of the offenders is described as being of average height and build.
He was wearing a dark-coloured tracksuit top with light coloured patterns on the stomach, and possibly a baseball cap.
A second man was wearing all dark clothing and was carrying a black rucksack.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting crime reference ED/13/1382.

“The police won't find the attackers -if they're in any gang...I know, as I was attacked many years ago, 1993 was the year and I was cycling when a gang passed me in a car and threatened me, unprovoked, they tried to knock me off my bike and failed, so I headed their way when they passed me and I cycled around the estate where they were about and they finally turned up in two different cars and chased me down the street whereas I was set upon and attacked. I went to the police and made a statement. Nothing come of it. Weeks later, I was a passenger in a car travelling through Swilly and I happen to spot one of the offenders car, outside a chip shop and we called the police only for them to say that there was lack of evidence and they refused to respond. The police did not bother to turn up! A disgrace. Even the registration number was given to the police. They are a definite waste of space.”

“City of culture? Really?
Join a gang and beat some poor individual up and you'll probably get away with it. Drive at 45mph on the embankment and expect the full force of the law. Why? Modern policing is all about money not crime and victims.”

“I was sort of surro9unded by hoodlums inside the Vauxhall Quay pub on Friday evening. I didn't turn to look at them but judged the danger by watching the faces of bar staff who could see what they were doing. They left eventually after only some attempts to insult and finally filling the air with foul smelling wind. That seemed to make a happy ending for them and later I saw one halfway up a lamp-pole outside when I was walking home. Moral of the story: remember that you can probably run twice as fast as the average weight-lifting tatskin.”

“Like it or not, there has always been fighting in Plymouth when the pubs kick out. The difference now is, it is no longer one on one, the cowardly people that beat up one person, hunt in packs, choose their victim and from then on, the victim doesn't stand a chance. I hope the police find the gang of cowardly bullies that did this and I hope the guy that was attacked gets well soon. What a world we are living in, I'll be glad to finish my days here.”
