A MAN is lucky to have survived what police have called a "vicious and prolonged attack" that allegedly saw his head stamped on six times.

The 48-year-old was left as "black and blue" following the alleged early-hours incident in Western Approach, say police.

But lead investigator Detective Constable Tona Pooley added: "It's absolutely amazing that he is OK.

"We believe he was kicked and punched, and that his head was stamped on half a dozen times."
