A 25-year-old man was allegedly knocked to the floor and then his face stamped on, breaking his nose, say police.

At one stage another man is understood to have intervened, but he too is alleged to have been knocked to the ground. He later left the area before speaking to police.

Investigators say they are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area of Jake's cafe in Regent Street in the early hours of January 19.

They would particularly like to hear from the man who intervened and may have been assaulted as a result.

If you can assist police contact them on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 quoting crime reference number EC/13/546.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and released on police bail until March 11 pending further inquiries.
