A DRIVER narrowly escaped serious injury and even possible death when children threw stones at the windscreen of his van on the A38, shattering the window.

The attack took place at around 2pm on Friday on the A38 dual carriageway at Liskeard heading westbound towards Dobwalls.

The 46-year-old driver of a Ford Transit van was driving past Liskeard when his windscreen smashed.

Up to six children had been seen on the overbridge which forms part of Station Road, Liskeard and it is believed that at least one threw a stone at the traffic on the road below.

Luckily, the stone hit the passenger side of the windscreen, meaning the driver was uninjured.

DS Tim Wright said: “The risk of serious injury or even death cannot be over-emphasised.

“If the stone had hit the windscreen just two-feet closer, then the driver could have been seriously injured, or he could have lost control and crashed his vehicle.

“Parents should discuss the dangers of this sort of behaviour with their children and ensure that they’ve done everything they can to reduce the risks of them causing injury in similar circumstances.”

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Police on 101, quoting reference BD/12/202.

“If they catch them they should be made to watch a film of a crash so they can see just what was a bit of fun in their eyes kills people and wrecks families lives.
I am glad this man wasn't hurt.
I too am wary when I see people stood on bridges hanging about, I think of those poor hairdressers that died on the Saltash passage many years ago when kids did that to their car.
I hope they read these comments and see it's not funny it's bloody dangerous and as Taftie has rightly pointed out it could end in death.”

“i am always wary when driving when people are stood on the over bridges and quite rightly too. This is attempted murder , if the car had crashed or even swerved and taken other cars out, and lets hope the kids get both barrels from the cops, the judge and the courts but i bet they get nothing more scary than double detention”

“If they catch these kids not only should they spend a night in the cells and get a criminal record but the parents should also be brought to book as they clearly went wron somewhere in not teaching their offspring from an early age to respect others and their property. They could have killed someone and the actions of the police and the court should reflect the seriousness of that.”

“Happened to me in 2006 up north; I managed to catch the little ****** by driving round. The police were called and the kid was cautioned. Yes cautioned! Should have been up for attempted murder in my mind. Might not bother calling the police next time and sort it myself....”

“I know it's not 'the schools' that should be teaching our children the right's and wrong's of life ( so many parent's of today think they should be!) but maybe a short film should be circulated around the schools pointing out the dangers of actions like these. Like Hugeboy said "find the runts responsible and show them pictures of car wrecks after fatal rtc's. disgusting behaviour, idiots, morons complete no marks"

Maybe a good starter for 10 to stop this type of thing happening.”
