BASKETBALL: Plymouth Marjon warmed up for the new EBL season with a 69-66 home win over Wadebridge.

It was the Division Three club's opening pre-season friendly.

Matt Peard led coach George Hatchell's team with 20 points supported by 11 from Henry Spring and nine points from point-guard Jamie Davies, who has rejoined Marjon this summer following four years at college in the United States.

Matt Garton had eight points, and Adam Hatchell and Sean Porter added seven apiece.

Marjon do not play at home again until their opening game of the new EBL season on Saturday, September 18.

They entertain Gloster in the first round of the National Cup at Marjon (7pm).

Marjon's first league game is at Oxford Brookes on October 2.

They edged Thursday's first frame 14-12 before taking the second 15-13 to lead by four, 29-25 at half-time.

Wadebridge enjoyed their best spell in the third period, which they controlled 23-17 to lead by two, 48-46 going into the fourth.

Marjon responded down the stretch, outscoring Wadebridge 23-18 to win by three, 69-66.
