Marjon sides aiming to get back on track
PLYMOUTH Marjon men and women's first teams will be seeking to get back on track at UCP Marjon tomorrow.
The men's first team host 10th placed Cardiff University (12.30pm) seeking to bounce back from a 5-1 defeat at third-placed Robinsons in Bristol last Saturday.
Coach Jamie Oxley admits: "It's going to be a challenge as we have a string of injuries."
Oxley is without Kyle Pinnock, Rob Urman, Ben Slack and Phil Mutlow, although Henry Totterdell and Rhys Hart return to the first string.
In-form striker Simon Fenwick leads the front line against the Welsh students.
Plymouth Ladies' first team seek their first points of 2012 as they prepare to host Clifton seconds in West Clubs Women's Hockey League Premier One (UCP Marjon 2pm).
The Reds have lost all three opening league games in the second half of the season by the odd goal.
Last week's 2-1 defeat at Devon rivals Isca saw Plymouth slip to sixth in the table following a 4-3 home defeat by second-placed Bournemouth and mid-January's 2-1 loss at Yate.
Clifton are eighth in the 12-team women's regional top flight.
In men's Premier Division Three, relegation haunted Plymouth Marjon A will be hoping to bounce back from consecutive defeats when they visit city rivals University of Plymouth at Lipson Community College (3pm).
Plymouth's former university player Pete Chevin is the only doubt while Mike Carter should return to action.
That game at Lipson is preceded by South One basement side OPMs' home test against promotion seeking Yeovil & Sherborne (1.30pm).
Second-placed Mannamead Ladies face a top of the table South Division clash at home to third-placed Bude at RMB Stonehouse (11.30am) while resurgent Caradon host Cornish rivals Penzance at Lux Park (3pm).
Plymouth Marjon Ladies seconds meet Sidmouth at UCP Marjon (10.45am).
There are two notable inter-club derbies tomorrow.
Trelawney One table toppers Plym Valley bid to extend their 11-match winning run against their second team at Lipson (10.30am).
Free scoring Valley firsts boosted their goal tally with a 16-0 win at Mannamead last Saturday with goals for Kat Pitcher (11), Jo Ricks (3), Emily France and Pippa Jephcott.
In men's South West One, in-form Plymouth Marjon C will be looking to pile the pressure on second-placed Marjon B, when the sides face each other at 9.15am.
OPMs A bid for a fourth successive win at South Western District One table toppers Tavistock A following a 2-0 home win over local rivals PGSOB C thanks to goals by Ben Wilcox and vice captain Rob Saunders.
On Sunday, Plymouth Marjon host Ashmoor in the under 18 national plate second round (12.30pm).
