Masked man with machete spotted on Mutley Plain
Police are asking for witnesses to help them with identifying a masked man who was spotted on Mutley Plain on Sunday morning carrying a large knife that has been described as a machete.
Police received a call at 7.10am alerting them to the man. He was described as wearing a black coat with a fur hood, of mixed race and with a scarf partially masking his face.

The man walked from Mutley Plain towards Mannamead, and although officers, including six armed policemen, were on the scene within minutes they did not succeed in locating the man.
A spokesman for the police said that there had not been any reports of the man mugging or harming anyone in the area and that the fact he had covered his face with a scarf might simply been because of the cold weather.

"However, carrying a knife like the one described to us - even if you are a chef on the way to work - is clearly illegal and dangerous. It is an offence that can lead to fines or even prison," he said.
The spokesman also said he wanted to reassure the public that this type of incident was very rare.
The Police would like to hear from anyone with information about the man or witnesses who saw him on Sunday morning.
Witnesses can contact the police on the non-emergency number 101 and give the log number 187, 20. January.
