FORMER Sepultura singer/songwriter/guitarist Max Cavalera leads his ultra heavy rock band Soulfly to the White Rabbit on Thursday.

They'll deliver tracks from new offering Enslaved. Cavalera's aim is to combine sounds and spiritual beliefs to push the boundaries in heavy rock.

Enslaved treads extreme territory with blast beats, violent riffage and wheezing screams in a groove-driven war cry. The idea can be traced back to Sepultura's ground-breaking album Roots of 1996 since when Cavalera has been considering doing an entire album based on the theme of slavery.

"I've had this concept for a long time," he says. "I actually thought it would be a Sepultura album, but that never happened. Soulfly went on, and I never forgot about the idea. Coming off the road from supporting Omen in 2010, I knew this was the best moment to do it.

"We're tackling an extreme subject with the heaviest music we've ever done. Everything is connected. When you're singing about something harsh like this, heavy music is the perfect match.

"I want people to go mental when they hear Enslaved," he says. "I want them to freak out. This is extreme."

“True, White Rabbit has attracted some big names in the past couple of years, which is awesome. Gallows and SOIA were really good shows... I too was there for both of them!
Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to make it to this gig, which sucks. Soulfly are an old favorite of mine. I got Primitive in the early 2000's and I played that album until it disintegrated inside my CD player!!!

I'm stoke to see Every Time I Die again in the Rabbit in October though... that will be good!”
