I AM writing in response to a comment you published by Ron Bowles about his experience of driving near Laira Bridge. I would be grateful if you would consider publishing my comments.

Driving through Heles Terrace from Plymstock and Laira Bridge and having to turn right on to Embankment Road, within 20 yards of the junction the offside lane merges with the nearside lane just before meeting the Plympton bound traffic coming from Gdynia Way.

These two lanes, in my opinion would, indeed, be considerably safer if a large sign saying 'Merge in Turn' were to be erected, or even markings on the road be placed instructing drivers to that effect. The merging of the two lanes as it is at present is dangerous and is an accident waiting to happen. I use this junction frequently in my business and I have seen a number of close encounters there, not to mention road rage by angry drivers cut up by impatient drivers attempting to merge out of turn.

Something must be done before there is a fatality.

“In the roadworks on Laira Bridge two lanes become one near the petrol station, with plenty of advance warning. Advance warning to the pr*ck in the Citroen Picasso to wellie it above the 30mph limit to then push in in front of me when there was plenty of room behind.

Sometimes I wish I was driving an old banger which would take a few more dents when these morons expect me to compensate for their stupidity.”

“The Citadel Rd East/ Friar's Lane junction near the Ciadel is also a potential killer, i first contacted the council about it 10 weeks ago but despite some exchange of emails nothing's been done”

“@timplymouth - unless one of the vehicles involved is either a pedal cycle or a motorcycle - then you have greater likelihood of a fatality. I agree that the corner is tight, but I have lost count of the number of drivers/riders I have seen who 'wallop it' at the earliest opportunity in an attempt to beat the vehicle in the other lane. If they are actively accelerating, ANY collision could quite conceivably be fatal, but for those road users who are more vulnerable int he first place, it's almost an inevitability. It is, as the correspondent says, a poorly-designed junction and a disaster waiting to happen.”

“I'm sure there will be an accident there (if there hasn't been already) but it won't cause a fatality. If you were going that fast you wouldn't make it around the corner, which is pretty tight.”
