Send messages to and from Plymouth service personnel over the festive season

The festive season is all about friends and family - so it can be hard if the ones you love are thousands of miles away over Christmas and New Year.

This year, 4,000 Royal Navy personnel aboard Plymouth-based ships will be away from home over the festive season.

And they are joined by dozens of other members of the armed forces from Plymouth currently serving in places including Afghanistan.

Among the ships currently away from Plymouth are HMS Northumberland, HMS Montrose, HMS Monmouth, HMS Somerset and HMS Enterprise.

The submarine HMS Trenchant is also away on active service.

A number of Plymouth Royal Marines are away from home serving with 40 Commando, as are 243 Field Hospital doctors and nurses who would usually be working at Derriford Hospital.
