There will be military re-enactments and plenty of explosions this coming weekend at Crownhill Fort.

It is the first Open Day in 3 years and promises to be bigger and better than previous events with plenty of fire power.

Kicking off at 10am and running until 4pm on both days, the weekend is an action packed itinerary of re-enactors across the UK who will be portraying members of the armed forces from days past covering the history of the fort on the frontline from the 1870’s to the 1970’s.

You will have the chance to discover just what happened to wounded soldiers during the World War One and of real interest will be how people lived, ate, slept and fought during the war years.

There will be opportunities to handle both original and replica objects and even inspect vehicles from WW2 and beyond.

For those of you who like a challenge there will even be a chance to test your stamina for discipline with some military drills!

Over the weekend there will be plenty of gun fire and cannons exploding across Plymouth as the Portsdown Artillery Volunteers rush into action.

It’s gearing to be a spectacular event and plenty of opportunities for stunning photography shots.

On both days at midday there will be stunning gunpowder displays.

There will also be plenty of fort tours and opportunities to investigate the fort’s underground tunnels.

And if all this sounds thirsty work, so it’s just as well there is plenty of refreshments available including a licenced bar.

This is a family friendly event so children are very welcome.
