Mixed feelings for ex-skipper Darren Purse at Port Vale
DEFENDER Darren Purse must have had mixed emotions as his new club convincingly beat his old one at Vale Park on Saturday.
Purse parted company with Plymouth Argyle by mutual agreement on Friday afternoon, as revealed by Herald Sport on Saturday.
The 35-year-old will officially complete a move to Port Vale today on a contract until the end of the season, after passing a medical.
Purse and his wife, Lindsay, watched from the directors' box as Argyle were beaten 4-0 by Vale and dropped into the League Two drop zone as a result.

Vale, however, stayed on track for automatic promotion – and even a title tilt – with the victory.
Purse had hoped to be part of a promotion-winning squad at Argyle this season, but now he has that same aim with the Potteries club.
He could make his debut in their away game against table-topping Gillingham this Saturday.
Port Vale centre-back John McCombe is out for at least six weeks because of a medial knee ligament injury.
So their manager Micky Adams was pleased with the addition of Purse to his squad.
Further signings are to follow as Vale, who only exited administration earlier this season, show a statement of their intent.
The signing of Purse was confirmed by the Valiants on Saturday afternoon.
Adams said: "He's experienced, he knows the job and he's a leader. Personally, I thought he kept Plymouth in the division last season with his leadership qualities.
"I think it's a decent signing for us. He's coming until the end of the season.
"He's vastly experienced, as I have said, and he's vocal. We are not a particularly vocal side.
"That's the sort of quality I need, hopefully to take us forward."
An Argyle statement, issued on Saturday afternoon, said: "Everyone at Home Park thanks Darren for his contribution to the Green cause and wishes him and his family the best for the future."
Meanwhile, there is speculation Argyle's versatile left-sided player Onismor Bhasera could soon be leaving the club.
The Zimbabwe international has been with the Pilgrims since March 2010. He has made 95 appearances in all competitions and scored four goals.

“I doubt very much that Purse will have mixed feelings. As a modern day footballer, emotions don't come into it. He'll be so relieved to get away from the pressure that is part and parcel of a struggling club, he won't give a damn.”
