MoD plan released today
DEFENCE chiefs have published a 10-year equipment plan for the military totalling nearly £160billion – which has huge implications for Plymouth.
It includes the future replacement vessels for the Devonport-based Type 23 frigates, and the successors to the ageing nuclear-armed Vanguard submarines, which undergo repair and refit at the city's dockyard.
It follows the Secretary of State's announcement last year that the £38billion black hole in the UK's defence budget had been eliminated.
The equipment plan, published today, includes £35.8billion earmarked for submarines.

That cash includes developing a replacement for the nuclear missile-carrying Vanguard vessels.
And £17.4billion has been allocated for ships including the development of the next generation Type 26 Frigates, which the Government is being urged to base in Plymouth.
