Mobility scooter peril
HOW I do agree with Mary Perry "Putting the brakes on mobility speeders", Your Say, August 8. While of course fully accepting the need for many to have to use these mobility scooters, I have become increasingly concerned over recent months of the highly dangerous and irresponsible actions of a significant minority.
My wife was nearly hit by one such user (he knows who he is) recently. When I caught up with him he didn't want to know. They must understand that at the speed they travel, silently too, around Plymouth City Centre, someone is going to be seriously injured. The time has come to stop this before it is too late.
I for one will report to the relevant bodies any more such lack of care and attention so that limits to speed can be made.

“Especially dangerous are the scooterists who hunt in pairs in 'echelon rear' formation, if the first one doesn't get you his wingman will..”

I think I know the one you mean mate, he flings his scooter round pulling enough G-forces to black out a combat pilot , we call him 'the Blue Max'”

“I'm happy to see the general consensus against some mobility scooter users. Perhaps, in the very near future, we will see some serious regulation in place.
It may seen a convenient way for some to move around but it's a downhill spiral. More artificial mobility means less exercise which leads to more obesity which leads to the inability to walk.”

“@cakegirl. Move upmarket to Sainsbury's. Anyway, what are you doing shopping at that time of day? Bargain hunting too?”

“jannercide, ..the truth hurts, its shocking to see the amount of obese people on these scooters and i do believe for some people who are genuinely disabled they are good but from my observations the majority are plain lazy, fat and bone idle and only use these scooters as its easier than trying to carry their huge carcasses around the town, less food, more exercise and general movement would make a big difference, i dread being in morrisons when the tanoy announces price reductions in the evenings, the sound of the fatties barging their way down to the cake section ;-)”

“John, pavements and pedestrian areas, the clue is in pedestrian, are for people who are walking. Since when is a motorised scooter a pedestrian. How dare these scooter riders suggest that people on foot are at fault because they dare to walk on and in these areas whilst on their phones etc, i would agree if they were walking across a road not paying attention.
NO it is the scooter riders who need to be more aware, they need to take a test, have a licence and insurance before being let loose on our pavements”
