French, of Haydens Farm in Wrangaton in the South Hams, is further charged with the alternative allegation that she caused his death by driving without due care and attention.

The court heard that she was alleged to have been at the wheel of a Scania Tipper lorry at the time of the accident on August 8 last year.

French was told the dangerous driving charge was so serious that the case would have to be sent straight to Plymouth Crown Court.

She did not indicate any pleas and spoke only to confirm her personal details during the five-minute hearing.

She was released on unconditional bail to appear before the senior court for a preliminary hearing on July 30.

French is also due to attend a plea and case management hearing before a judge on October 22.

Mr Carter, aged 51, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The grandfather-of-four from Whitleigh was riding a Kawaskai motorcycle at the time of the accident.
