PLYMOUTH skipper Callum Whittaker has predictably recalled city prospect Ben Stein for his side's match at North Devon tomorrow.

Stein was left out of Plymouth's home match against Exmouth last weekend and almost as predictably scored a big century while playing for the seconds.

Plymouth lost by 101 runs, prompting Whittaker to get Stein, whose older brother Sam also plays for the firsts, back into the senior side.

Whittaker said: "Ben's scored 183 for the seconds, so he's got to be in the side. It's good to see him in there."

Plymouth haven't made the best start to the season, winning one of their opening four matches.

But Whittaker is sure they can turn their results around and does not disagree with the suggestion that the city side are in a false position.

"I think we are," he said. "But we've got to prove it. Anyone who watches us play knows we've got some serious danger-men in the side.

"North Devon are going to be tough, but we've got almost a full-strength team out and you can't worry about what the opposition are going to do. We've just got to put in a good performance.

"Certainly, the next three games are big for us – North Devon, Sandford and Heathcoat – and touch wood, we might be able to go on a good run and by the half-way point of the season we could be in a good position."

Ben Stein replaces James Nicholls in the first team line-up, while Pasi Mawalage returns to the side at the expense of last weekend's debutant Jordan Hancock.

Whittaker said: "It was great to give Jordan a go in the firsts – he would have learned something and now he can take it on."
