A TEENAGE mugger from Plymouth refunded his victim £2.20 for his train fare, a court has heard.

Karl Morley handed over the cash after his 17-year-old victim asked how he was supposed to get home, prosecutor Ron Ede told Truro Crown Court.

But Morley kept other property, including a mobile phone, that he took from other teenagers on Par station in Cornwall on June 28.

Morley, of Duncombe Avenue, had admitted two robberies at an earlier hearing.

Geoffrey Parlby, defending, said it was bizarre that Morley had handed back some of the cash he had taken so that his victim could catch his train home.

He said: "He has since got a job and made real efforts to turn his life around."

Judge Christopher Elwen told Morley: "You abused and threatened the first young man, and then crossed to the other platform and threatened the young people who were there.

"You told them: 'I am from Plymouth, I am harder and I am going to get what you have got'.

"I give you credit for your guilty pleas and your remorse, but you have previous convictions for robbery and dishonesty.

"Excessive drinking was at the root of your offending.

"These were grave offences, not to be treated lightly, but given that the violence was minimal, and the previous robbery was not high in the scale of seriousness, I do not conclude that you are a dangerous offender.

"They are, however, so serious that only custody is appropriate."

He sent Morley to a young offenders' institution for 30 months.

“Oh, Miss_A. You sound like such a romantic character with your little kitty, just like Dick Whittington - "Turn again Miss-A ... Lord Mayor of Plymouth". It's a bit like a fairy tale.”

“Susan, it would be an honour to serve. Although I must insist that my little kitty cat accompanies me on my mayoral duties.”

“30 Months! He will have to serve half before being released, I think we should build more prisons, perhaps right on the middle of the Moor, create jobs in doing so, and put scum bags like this in there for 300 months, you bring up your children to have respect for themselves and others and then a little nonce like this comes along and mugs them! He is a coward and a thief, bet his parents are most proud!”
