NAVAL fitness fanatic and self-confessed loudmouth George 'Shiner' Wright is set to face his toughest challenge – keeping quiet for 24 hours.

Leading Physical Trainer Wright (pictured right), based at HMS Raleigh, has pledged to keep mum next Tuesday in a bid to raise £2,000 for the children's ward at Derriford Hospital.

LPT Wright, aged 36, said: "Everyone who knows my character associates me with being a loudmouth. When I mentioned the idea of doing a sponsored silence, all my mates laughed.

"But I am determined not one word will pass my lips on the day. There will be no barking orders at recruits, no inspirational words of encouragement and I won't be offering to make anyone a cup of tea. However after the 24 hours, everyone had better stand by."

The burly physical trainer has special reason to help the ward, after his daughter Megan was rushed to Derriford on Boxing Day 2010 suffering from bronchitis.

He said: "My fiancee Laura and I were really frightened to see our baby suffering, but the care Megan received was amazing and certainly put her on the road to recovery.

"While I was sitting by her bedside, I realised how many children have to spend Christmas in hospital and I was determined to do something to make it as special as I could."

The secretary of HMS Raleigh's golf cartel has already raised £600 by organising raffles through the year. Anyone who wants to sponsor him can do so online at www.justgiving.com/George-shiner-Wright
