Muzzle all dogs
ALL my life I have had a dog around the house, first as a child when my mother struggled to pay the 7/6d (37p) licence fee, and later when I had my own children and the fee was abolished.
Tonight on television I listened to fancy ideas to stop dogs killing and maiming children. Insurance and the re-introduction of licences were among the most popular. My small collie was recently attacked by an alsatian, The owner, who was quite old, was barely able to get his big dog off my little one, which was unhurt but terrified. What use a licence or insurance then? As for babies and older children, what use is a licensed dog to them, and their, devastated parents if they were to be attacked? My dog is identity chipped and runs free in the park, but for total safety can we please have all dogs muzzled? My little dog is my best friend and much loved. What pleasure it would be to walk her out in safety again. If every dog owner spent a couple of pounds on a muzzle, there would be no more child deaths or dogs fighting each other and getting hurt. Postmen and women could do their job in safety if all dogs were muzzled outside the home, when even the most gentle dog can be territorial.

“Nicky
I spend alot of time walking in the countryside and I frequently come across dogs that jump up at me and my family.
My young daughter is afraid of dogs, but I guess that over half of the dog owners that see their dogs frighten my daughter say "it's ok, he only wants to play, he won't harm you".
They are totally ignorant of the fact that she is afraid, and totally ignorant to the possibility of putting the dog on a lead.
I do come across a minority of dog owners who, when they see us, hold their dog so we can walk past - they seem to realise that not everyone is comfortable around dogs.
Just for a moment, why don't you try to see the bigger picture, and stop being so egocentric.”
