Tony Capaldi, back on trial at Argyle, played left-back while both wingers, Craig Noone and Bolasie, were left out in favour of Karl Duguid and Chris Clark.
NAC Breda finished tenth in the Eredivisie last season.
Manager Peter Reid said: ""I commented that you learn something when you get defeated and I learned something at Torquay, but hopefully I've seen a true performance.
"I thought we were excellent.
"Our shape was good; we frustrated them when we didn't have the ball; some of the counter-attacking play was good.
"The plan was to frustrate them - which we did - and, as the game went on, we changed things - we got a bit more pace up front.
"Everyone's had a good run-out today and I'm pleased with everybody that took part. It was a good performance."
