courses in construction skills and professional cookery, preparing young people

for the world of work.

Richard de Bulat the

founder member of the training centre has been involved in education for 35

years working with challenging behaviour & the criminal justice system. As

Head of Education for HMP Dartmoor, Richard was responsible for developing

training and education programs for prisoners to aid in their rehabilitation

& gain meaningful employment upon release. Richard believes that

"early intervention programs can greatly enhance a young persons life

chances and personal wellbeing. All of

us here at New Hope are driven with a passion to see our students achieve the

best they can for themselves, whether that be in personal development and

qualifications or in gaining employment in the workplace."

At their premises in St Judes, Plymouth, they have

purpose made workshops & catering facilities to meet all of the training

needs of young people, including real life work experience. Students have

access to entry Level introductory courses to Level 3 Diplomas. The courses are

practical and activity based with a substantial element of work experience and

work related activities.

Support can be provided for

learners in functional skills or for those who have been out of education. Teamwork

is a major part of all of the courses they run as well as practical job skills.

Along with the standard course modules the team also offer students help with

C.V writing, Job application workshops & interview techniques working with

members of the public & online Jobsearch.

There are courses available to help students start a career in the catering

sector which involve basic kitchen operations through to Diplomas at levels 2

& 3 in professional cookery and fine dining. Cookery courses include Health

& safety in the kitchen, healthy diet & eating, understanding the

catering industry. A wide range of cooking techniques & food safety

certification at level 2.

For students interested in

a career in the construction industry the courses involve tasters in all areas

of the construction industry such as site carpentry, bricklaying, painting

& decorating, basic plumbing & plastering. More specialist courses at

levels 2 & 3 in carpentry and joinery including first and second fix,

flooring, walls, windows, roofing and dormers are also available.
