A NEW superstore has opened it's doors in Callington with donations to two local charities.

Mayor of Callington, councillor Karen Gold, cut a ribbon to declare the new Tesco store on Tavistock Road officially open for business.

At the same time Store Manager Gary Wills presented representatives from Ellie's Haven and St Luke's Hospice with giant cheques for £500 each.

Stephanie Cherington, Senior Community Fundraiser for St Luke´s Hospice, said: "We are extremely grateful to Tesco for its generous donation of £500 to mark the new store opening in Callington. We rely heavily on help from the communities we serve and this money will go a long way in helping us continue to offer high quality specialist palliative care to people with terminal and life-limiting illnesses.

"We cannot thank Store Manager Gary Wills enough for choosing us and we hope we will be able to work with Tesco again in the near future."

Nigel Libby from Ellie's Haven said: "Since we started Ellie's Haven, I have said on many occasions how much we appreciate the support and generosity of so many people, and organisations.

"It can be very overwhelming at times when we have a quiet moment to think about things, of how people have taken our children, and the aims of the charity to their hearts.

"We are working extremely hard to achieve Ellie's Haven, and will continue to do so, with the support of many professionals who provide their services free of charge. We would like to thank Tesco for their donation, and wish them all the best with their new Callington store."

Store Manager Gary said: "We wanted to donate to Ellie's Haven and St Luke's Hospice as they are fantastic local charities and I am really glad that our Mayor and the charity representatives officially."
